So a friend of mine wants to buy an iMac, but he has a kinda low budget. He said between $500 and $700ish. So he wants to upgrade from his 2007 MacBook to an iMac.
I have been looking around on eBay and found some 2009-2011 iMacs that fit his budget. Does anyone have an older iMac that plays minecraft? And if so, it would be helpful to say the FPS you get.

Which iMac do you have? The 21.5" or the 27"?
Also do you have the AMD Radeon HD 6750m, 6770m, or 6970m?

It's the 21.5" with the 6770m as far as I know. I'm not at home at the moment, so can't check it. Upgraded the RAM to 12GB as well.
Well if it can get 130 fps, then I wonder how the base model with the 6750m would run it. I have seen the base model sell for around $600-$650 on eBay/Craigslist

my kids play it on my old C2Duo iMac from 2007. I'm guessing the fps are pretty low

Why the need to run it on an old mac?

I hate when people answer a question with a question, so please forgive me. I run a MineCraft server at home on a beefed up Headless Ubuntu ( 8core Xeon, 16GB RAM, 2TB ). You could do the same on a less beefy Ubuntu box and still get fantastic FPS.

I can guess the need is for the iMac more than MineCraft.

Well my friend wants an iMac, because he likes the idea of an All In One computer, and he wants to run Mac OS X. But he can't afford a new iMac, so I found some iMacs that he can afford, which are all 2009/2010 iMacs, with the exception of a 2011 iMac 21.5" base model.
The only games he wants to play are Cod 4 and Minecraft

2011 model should handle it fine.

My friends daughter plays it on a very old Core2Duo 2.0Ghz iMac 20" with an ATI HD 2400XT 128Mb video card - not exacty fluid but most certainly playable - I wouldn't recommend it though if you want some element of future proofing.
