Not only does Verizon not use SIM cards, but they also don't use EDGE or GPRS. The iPhone will not work with Verizon.

Verizon is an entirely different type of cell phone network. The phones are not compatible in any way. GSM vs CDMA technologies. An unlocked iPhone can only work on other GSM providers, such as t-mobile.
