So it looks like Wifi 7 is just around the corner. There's already a few Wifi 7 routers out, and the One Plus 11 already has Wifi 7. The iPhone 16 is rumored to include Wifi 7.

I have a small 10gb network via 10gb switch between two Desktop PCs and my Synology NAS. I'm looking forward to the day when Apple announces Wifi 7 on Macbooks. It's going to be like having the close to the equivalent as having a direct 10gb connection. So transferring and working with files on my NAS should be amazing for wireless.

Huh. Well that might explain why Eero has their routers on a steep discount right now. Hmmm... I was going to buy a 3-pack but may as well hold off now since I have a couple months before I will be needing them.

Was reading up on WiFi 7, and was looking at the Eero Max 7 Mesh router. $600 bucks. Reading the spec's and I there is something that is sure to have Hollywood in enraged baboon mode. WiFi 7 can download a complete Bluray movie in 10 seconds.

There is that but I was thinking how is might help those of us in high speed internet purgatory with streaming from an Apple TV. I recently upgraded from and Apple Airport Extreme to an eero Pro Max 6E what a difference it made. The thing that was so sweet was regular updates. plus an app with a complete detailed list of what is going on in local nextwork.

In the download process, you can get Dolby surround music for online downloading. Mostly are DVD type files but occasionally they are in the Blu-Ray format. Being able to quickly download such a purchase using WiFi 7 would be great.

My IS0 sucks so it wouldn’t make any difference for me (other than local networking here).

For most people even 5 is “good enough” but for those with setups and workflows that will actually take advantage of it, seems like a nice upgrade to the spec

Wi-Fi 7 is not just around the corner. The final release won’t be for another year at the earliest. Apple won’t be supporting Wi-Fi 7 until 2025 at the earliest.

As long as internet that takes advantage of these speeds is still expensive, I see no reason to be excited. Yes, local networking is great with these speeds, but my router is something before wifi 6 and we don't have fibre, so I don't know what the advantage would be.

Besides, sites load pretty much instantly for me already

Keep in mind, these aren't real world speeds....

You can see the details in a post like this one, but it depends heavily on whether your client is 2x2 or 4x4. I think current mac clients are mostly 2x2, so that would mean max 3-5GB and then when you start to take into account interference it drops from there.

Either way, once its all up, it'll definitely be above gigabit and probably close to or hopefully above 2.5gb

Amazon eero routers are garbage. Netgear orbi are the best consumer wifi in the market. Expensive though but you get what you pay for.

Wi-Fi 6E on iPhone 15 regularly gets me 1.1Gbps+

My advice. Buy once cry once and build yourself a full network filled with ubiquiti equipment. But, you’ll have to wait until wifi7 is finalized before they release a wifi7 AP

I just upgraded to the ubiquiti u7 pro and I’m seeing around 1300mbps up and down on my iPhone 15 pro max. I know the iPhone is a 6e device, but this is about 30% faster than my 6e router. Worth the upgrade if you are already in The ubiquiti universe

I paid $30 for an intel wifi7 card for my pc laptop and now I get 2Gigs up and down (fiber) with my ubiquiti 7 pro. Why can’t things ever be as simple as that on the Mac side. Sigh.

I'm not that excited about WiFi7, but its more from a home user perspective. But considering moving from WiFi5 now to WiFi6 since my APs are all EOL and don't get any updates.
The WiFi6 AP's are fairly cheap now so will prob pick-up a Wax615.
I know this is a thread about WiFi7, but i'm curious to see if the battery saving tech that was introduced in WiFi6 actually makes a real world difference.

Wifi7 is fantastic (so much better than even 6E) and it’s a damn shame Apple can’t make upgrading as simple and as cheap as PCs. All my PC laptops and workstations in my house are now on wifi7 using a U7-pro. Meanwhile my Macs and iOS devices sit on wifi 6 (not even 6E).
