The reason that Samsung is a rival is that they produce quality products. If the stuff they produced was complete garbage, their name wouldn't appear on these forums as often as they do.
The problem with the fanboyism on both sides (Android/iOS or Apple/Samsung) is that people are blinded from the real truths. Both sides are guilty of borrowing from each other, both sides also try to protect their IPs through lawsuits and trademark violation claims. Apple has borrowed some key features, so has Samsung. Android has allowed Samsung to have some really cool features that Apple still doesn't have. As for visual similarities....I have always thought that the Icons were chosen by Samsung for instant recognition for people who are switching away from iOS, not just a blatant ripoff for the sake of ripping something off. If you want people to switch, you can't just make a product that is completely unfamiliar and expect your new customers to learn all over again. It just doesn't work that way.
Now for the concern at hand. If there is a company that can product extremely high quality chips, in this case a RAM module for the iPhone, and they can do it at a very competitive rate that allows your company to build devices with the product margins you want then that is a company you want to do business with. Samsung is such a large diverse company, buying chips from them is not the same as asking their Mobile division to get involved in the development of your new devices.
