I wonder if Apple Card is undergoing some changes on the back end that is causing weird behavior. All this is in the Wallet app on my iPhone

At about 2:30 this morning it showed "No Payment Due" on 31 May. This should have shown my installment payment due. I can't say if this is normal because I don't remember checking it early last month. Clearly this is still a glitch because it should've either said no payment is due on 30 April or showed what was due for 31 May.

About 7:00 this morning I looked and it showed my installment payment due so I'm thinking great, it's finally caught up to the current month. I pay it thinking it's going to go back to zero balance and a white card but no. It doesn't show up as paid... So I wait a few minutes and it finally shows paid but the balance hasn't changed. Every single time I've made a payment before it has went through in seconds. It always was a day or so before they took the money out of my bank so I figure technically the payment wasn't instant, but I liked how it showed it complete in the app.

Also, there's another glitch where I can move the slider in the circle when the installment payment is listed. It changes from green to red, but doesn't change the amount. The note under it changes from "Pay April Balance" to "Lower Your Interest Charges" mentioning increasing your payment will lower my interest charges. Somehow the app thinks the amount has changed so it changes the text. I don't know if this glitch was there last month because I didn't really check.

Does everyone else's payments show complete right away or was that just me for some reason? I'm wondering if GS is cutting costs somehow and now payments are going to be stuck as pending for a while. The one big thing I liked about the Apple Card is how fast the transactions went through.

Edit: I contacted Goldman Sachs through iMessage, and I received this reply

"Payments made today may take longer to reflect in your balance. Despite the delay, your payment will still be credited as of the first of the month. Until then, any payments made today will show as ‘pending’ under ‘Latest transactions’ if you view them on your Apple Card dashboard. If you need to cancel these payments you can contact us tomorrow to do so. If the above resolves your inquiry, please type ‘Exit’ and tap send. An Apple Card specialist will be with you in about 40 minutes."

This is really unclear if that means today is somehow different or this is a new thing. I'm a bit worried because the last time I had to contact them they had customer support available immediately but now there's a 40 minute wait for a chat... I guess Goldman Sachs had to cut customer support staff because they're losing money on Apple Card so that's understandable.

It always takes longer around the month change. Seems to be a little quicker though. Our recent payment will probably show by this evening. It used to take days

I have tried 3 times in the last hour to make a payment on my Apple Card. I was trying to make a payment from my Apple Cash to my Apple Card. All three times I have made the payment I get that there was an error and to try again later. I could understand an issue in the middle of the night but at noon CST? 🤷‍♂️

I thought about it and realized today is Labor Day so perhaps that explains the transactions taking longer. If that was the reason, I don’t understand why the automatic reply didn’t mention “due to holiday” or something similar. The holiday would also explain why there is no customer service to answer a message. Everyone needs time off to include customer service people that answer messages.

It wouldn’t account for the glitches but maybe they’ve always been there and I’ve just noticed.

That’s crazy. I’ve never paid just from Apple Cash but I have added Apple Cash to my payment if I remember correctly.

I worry a little bit about the relationship between Goldman Sachs and Apple with the Apple Card. If you ask me will my Discover card still be a thing in 10 years, I will say sure, but I’m not that confident about the Apple Card just because it’s not really profitable for Goldman Sachs.

So Goldman Sachs will make you wait when you pay directly from your checking account if you pay something different than what they expect you to pay. So if you pay more or pay more often than what they expect they will wait to credit your payment. Basically I add cash to my Apple Cash from my debit card from the same account I would directly pay from. Then I pay the Apple Card bill from my Apple Cash card and it’s immediately credited.

You are correct that Labor Day in the USA is in September. It's the rest of the world that does it on May 1st. I suspect that their customer chat support is not USA based.

That's interesting. I wonder if it's an algorithm that does this to verify for fraud or something? I pay from two different checking accounts and I occasionally selected the option to pay whatever was in Apple Cash but I have the savings account now so I didn't do that. Perhaps that change of me opening a savings account caused some problem. It finally cleared, and now it's reflected in the balance.

Loading money on the Apple Cash card just to transfer that to your Apple credit card seems like jumping through hoops but I guess if it works. I pay off my card probably too frequently, so maybe that is annoying to them. I use it for the cash back and then when I think about it, pay it off.

The last couple days my balance has been a little off. Normally pending transactions are included in the balance but can’t be paid yet. Now it seems some pending charges aren’t included in the balance at all. I haven’t seen this before so I’m not sure if it’s a glitch or just a new thing.
