Other Apple Gift Card During Pre Order

Is there an option to apply an apple gift card to my order if I use Apple Pay during preorders? When I go to the payment options step on the pre-pre order it shows that I can use an apple gift card but just if I use a credit or debit card

Press Credit or Debit Card and on the next screen it’ll show you your gift card balance and/or a place to apply a new gift card.

I had this also when buying a watch - if you chose AppleCare +, with monthly payments, you can't use a gift card because they can't attach monthly payments to a gift card form or payment.

Once I removed my AppleCare + monthly option, I could use my gift card.
