Apple Magic Keyboard + Pass through USB-C with external monitor support?

I just bought Apple Magic Keyboard for my iPad Pro 11” M2. When I connect my USB-C hub to the USB-C port on the iPad, my external monitor works, but When I connect the USB-C hub to the pass-through USB-C port on the Magic Keyboard, the external monitor does not work. Is this expected?
