apple make money from powerpc still?

so, i assume apple (as a part of the AIM alliance) still recieves 'royalties' for powerPC cpus sold? anyone know much about this subject?, freescale are still making chips based on the older architecture (mainly for the car market i believe) and mac upgrades, and IBM still uses G5's in blades doesnt it? as well as linux boxes and other specialised machines. I wonder if a G5 upgrade will ever be available and if they'll evr puch G4 beyond the 2ghz its upto now. feel free to comment or enlighten me

also, did apple recieve any money from nintendo for the use of the 750CXe power processor in the gamecube? it must have used aim's technology

Apple helped IBM reduce the POWER chip set to the PowerPC microprocessor. With its partnership with Intel, Apple no longer uses the PowerPC in any of its products. However, I don't know if Apple retains a financial interest in the PPC. As for G5 upgrades, no. The PPC 970-family (aka G5) requires that each processor be custom-mated to its cooling module. Faster G5's are liquid-cooled which requires a different case than the air-cooled units. Even if it were technically possible to replace a G5 with a faster processor/cooling unit, it would make no financial sense to do so.

interesting point about the G5 chips that i was unaware of (though makes sense with the heat) i see no reason apple should not be claiming some money from freescale and or ibm, unless there was some kind contract stating that they manufacture for apple and apple doesnt claim on the selling for other useses!?!
