My pencil seems to be broken. It keeps disconnecting from my iPP after just 1-2 minutes of active use. Attaching the pencil to the iPP immediately restores the connection - for another 1-2 minutes. Is there anything else I can do before taking the trip to the Apple store? Re-pairing didn’t help. The tip is rather new and clean. My Airpods stay connected so I don’t believe the iPP is causing this.

My friend's does the same thing. He believes his battery is shot. That’s all I know based on hearing him mutter about it.

The pencil is less than a year old and its battery is at 100% charge according to the iPP. It has very few charge cycles because I use the pencil rarely. Warranty is 1 year here so I should be fine.

I have been to the Apple store a few days ago, demonstrated the problem and they replaced it with a new one.
