Interesting loophole in the deal that you get a free year of Apple TV+ when you buy a new Apple device.

My wife took in a 14-month old iPhone XR to Apple store in January and they replaced it due to a problem with the hardware. She recently received a notification to say she hadn’t yet claimed her free year of Apple TV+ on “your new apple device”.

so looks as if replacement devices also get the free year.

If you have already claimed your free year on a device and she is part of your family plan on iOS then it will deem her ineligible. You will need to make a new Apple ID not tied to your family plan and then you can redeem it on that one. If you have an Apple TV this is a good trick but it sucks to handle on phones due to having to sign in and out over and over.
