Has anyone been able to buy applecare for the watch in a store?!

Yes. I bought mine earlier today at the Apple Store in Union Square in SF.
I hadn't opened mine yet and the specialist flew through the liquid/damage questions on her EasyPay. No genius required.

I called up 800-MY-Apple and was able to get AppleCare added right over the phone. They asked a few questions about my watch, and processed my AppleCare+ right over the phone.

Online AppleCare Chat

I was able to add Applecare+ via online chat last night. Very easy. They sent me a link to enter my payment information securely and sent me my agreement number instantly. It showed in my support profile immediately as well.

Purchased AppleCare for my watch at my local Apple Store today. All they needed was the serial number (which is listed in the iPhone's watch app). They didn't even inspect the watch, interestingly enough.

A bunch of employees came to see my watch. I guess all the store models are locked in demo mode so they were asking me all about it.

For bonus points, be sure to pay with Apple Pay on the watch when you buy your AppleCare. Nobody at the Upper West Side Apple Store in NYC had seen it done on the watch yet when I went.

I bought applecare in the store today as well. They didn't really inspect the watch but did ask me about how I like it so far. I guess how much damage would really be done in less than 24 hours unless you are a youtuber trying to destroy it. I paid for most using a passport gift card and the rest with Apple pay - all using my watch which was super quick and easy.

Yeah online chat CS said either in store, via chat, or on the phone as long as you had the watch in your possession. So not after you placed your order but before delivery.

I tried (twice) to add have Applecare added via Chat. Both reps said I could only do it in store or via calling.

I took my watch into an Apple Store today to buy AppleCare+ for it. The assistant Said I could not buy it in store, that I could only buy it on line, they were quite adamant.

I explained that I had read that other people had bought it in store, and they reluctantly went to find out. They came back and admitted I was right, that it could be purchased in store.

I had to take my watch to another assistant who looked it over very closely, as though looking for minor cosmetic imperfections, who eventually ok'd it for AppleCare+, then on to another assistant to add the AppleCare for me.

Overall, not a great experience, but I'm glad I have it sorted now.

Out of interest I purchased my AppleCare Plus together with my :apple:Watch preorder and the order for the AppleCare Plus only showed as completed today and "shipped" even though I received the watch on Friday. I think the shipped part refers to the booklet you get with it.

The strange thing is when I looked at my support profile earlier this evening it still showed the standard one year warranty and did not include the extended AppleCare Plus warranty. If it doesn't change in the next day or two I'm going to have to call customer service to find out what's going on.

Yep. I did. $31 off a left-over gift card and the rest was paid with the watch.
