Apps! List of must have apps for someone new to Apple

I don't have an iphone or ipad touch. I have zero apps experience. Would you please list your 'must have' apps that you find you use the most with those devices and you think I really really need to have. I have set myself a $100 limit to populate my new toy with cool things.

Discuss. :)

I guess I should have stated that it is FOR my new ipad. Most of you have either the iphone or ipod touch and are familiar with the apps. I'm not. I just wanted some feedback on some things I may want to include. That app store is MASSIVE. I don't want to spend my wad and not get something that is deemed a 'must have'.
