We have 2 iPhone 4S which we got in October 2011. When I checked my account on AT&T's web site, it says both lines are eligible for the fully subsidized upgrade price. However, when I checked my contract, it won't end until October 2013. Is AT&T making exceptions because the new iPhones will launch on September 20?

We are most likely switching carriers, but we're not sure if being eligible for the upgrade means we are out of contract now given the information above. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks.

You are not off contract. They are just letting you early upgrade because you've paid in enough toward the subsidy. If you renew, you will start a whole new 2 year contract on whichever line you early upgrade on.

I figured as much. Just wanted confirmation. Looks like I have to wait another month to switch and get our iPhone 5s. :(

This is why I want to be contract-free.

Everyone else, enjoy your new iPhone 5s.
