Chinese gaming PC manufacturer Ayaneo just announced their new handheld gaming PC to rival Valve's legendary Steam Deck, the Ayaneo Next Lite
Not much is known about this handheld yet as more will be revealed tomorrow, but there is one thing about the handheld that is making a splash, and that's the fact it's not preloaded with Windows but instead with Valve's Linux distro SteamOS 3.
This is massive earthshattering news for multiple reasons. Firstly, this is the first non-Steam Deck PC that is using SteamOS 3. This means the distro is nearing a point Valve is comfortable with releasing the long awaited desktop installer so everyone could install it onto their PCs (which means I'm probably gonna have to distrohop off of Nobara for my challenge)
But the other reason, and bigger than that, is this is the start. This is the first gaming PC OEM using a Linux distro as it's preloaded operating system instead of Windows, and others will soon follow. And when the handhelds have moved to SteamOS and the desktop installer arrives, other OEMs will soon follow. Just having these PCs preloaded with SteamOS will do big things for Linux.
Windows' dominance is now starting to form cracks in the wall

Ayaneo's Next portable gaming PC runs SteamOS out of the box
The Next Lite is the first handheld gaming PC we've seen willing to step up to the Steam Deck on its own software turf.
