I just replaced my mba 2014 with 1T SSD Samsung EVO, but battery life is dropping to only ~3 hr now!
Any suggestions?

What's the experience with other SSDs? Anyone with better battery life?

Samsung nvme drives in the MacBooks are known to reduce battery life and increase operating temperatures. Hibernation mode 25 will not work on 2013 and 2014 MacBooks that have a third party nvme drive so the battery will drain with the lid closed.

An Evo in an air will have its read and write speed limited by your air's pci-e 2.0 x 2 bus speed which is another reason I recommend the HP ex920, Intel 760p, or Adata sx8200 Pro.

Lots of good information here: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...sd-to-m-2-nvme.2034976/page-191#post-27524057

Thanks! I've looked at the thread, there are too much info and I missed this one. For later version of MacBook which have proper driver, how much battery is lost typically? I'm tempting to sell this one and get an later version now.

I have an HP ex900 in my early 2015 13" and the drop in battery life is around 10% to 15%.

There is not much difference between the 2014 and 2015 air and may not be worth upgrading.

Hi, how many hours battery life did you have before? Is it perhaps the battery which is degrading + the higher SSD power consumption? From what I have seen a reduction of 3:30h is valid coming from the 12h+ from the original by inserting a high performance SSD like the Samsung. I have seen a test with a JetDrive and the battery went down from 12:24h to 09:03h, based on a 2017 MBA (test was done by Macwelt and included 6h movie + prediction).
On my 2013 and 2015 MBA with a used Battery and the P1, I have >6h movie before the battery dies.

The old one gets about 7hr now. The percentage loss is too much.. I’ve ordered a Sabrent one to try out. I saw OWC has a low power N series but I haven’t seen anyone commenting on that

I changed to Sabrent now, one obvious improvement is heating so far. And coconut battery shows less power discharges too so far. I'm gonna keep it for while and probably return the Samsung one.
