What is the difference between Better energy savings and Better perfomance for the battery status on these macs, and which one is better?

The better energy is typically used for when you're not plugged in and just running on battery because it makes the battery go down slower. Usually the main difference is that it makes the screen dimmer to save power.

So, really, which is better depends on whether you're plugged in or not.
