Many times, people say you can't beat the original when it comes to classic or masterpiece video games or pretty much anything. Well, here I present a list of some games where the sequel was pretty much the zenith of the series:

Double Dragon 2 - NES
Street Fighter 2 - Arcade
Mega Man 2 - NES
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - Arcade
Sonic 2 - Sega Genesis
Mortal Kombat 2 - Arcade
After Burner 2 - Arcade
TMNT 2 The Arcade Game - NES
Phantasy Star 2 - Sega Genesis
Final Fantasy 2 - SNES
The Last Ninja 2 - Commodore64
Street Fighter Alpha 2 - Arcade
Streets of Rage 2 - Sega Genesis
Super Metroid - SNES

I would like to hear what you guys loved in the sequel category.

Great list but I think Super Metroid was actually Metroid 3? Metroid 2: Return of Samus for the Gameboy was the sequel to the first game but as Super Metroid is a ridiculously good game it doesn't matter. Long Live Metroid.

I actually had Metroid 2 on the Gameboy. Yes you are right that was the sequel but I am talking console to console from NES to SNES. The GB version was also somewhat of a niche market as most people had a home system rather than the portable.

You do know that the Gameboy massively outsold all other consoles before the PS2 came along, don't you?
You are talking about the system. I am talking about Metroid's popularity. The majority of people who know about Metroid on NES do not know of the sequel on the GB. That or they never played it or got into it.

Final Fantasy II for SNES is in fact Final Fantasy IV. It was released as Final Fantasy II in the U.S. The actual Final Fantasy II was released in 1988 for the Famicom in Japan and it was never released for the NES in the U.S. (nor did Final Fantasy III). Final Fantasy IV was released in 1991 and was named Final Fantasy II in the U.S. not to confuse players.

Here is my list:

Assassin's Creed 2 (PC)
Day of the Tentacle (PC/Mac, sequel to Maniac Mansion)
Ghouls n' Ghosts (Arcade, sequel to Ghosts n' Goblins)
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (PC/Mac/Amiga)
Marvel Super Heroes (Arcade, sequel to X-Men: Children of the Atom)
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (PC/Mac/Amiga)
Mortal Kombat 2 (Arcade/SNES/Genesis)
Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh (PC)
Sim City 2000 (PC/Mac/Amiga)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis)
Street Fighter II (Arcade)
Streets of Rage 2 (Genesis)
Super Mario Bros. (NES, sequel to Mario Bros.)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (Arcade)
Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Master System)

I am not counting number 3 and beyond. Just number 2, the first sequel to the original games.

I have played a ton of games,
But last year, year of the lockdown, 2 of the dozen games I have played, have "ruined" gaming for me.
After these 2 games, nothing satisfying me any longer in the game department.

In March April and May, I lived for a solid 3 months as Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2.
After finishing this game, I had an empty feeling.

That Feeling only could be filled with : The Last Of Us part II.

Since playing and finishing those 2 gems, I played some odyssee, and a handful more, but......nope

Small edit: Dead cells and Hades are the only two games, that can hold my attention... sometimes just for a run or 2, sometimes for a couple of hours.
