I also like Sygic navigation. It works offline, have always updated maps. Best GPS app for smartphone in Canada for sure. My exact one : http://www.sygic.com/en/gps-navigation-canada
I like sygic also, works better than anything else for us driving all over na. I have a tomtom device but sygic on the phone or ipad is more reliable. Offline use is important to me, so google or apple maps are out for me.

I love Spyglass nav app on my iPhone. I use it for almost a year and it's really great for driving a car and off-road navigation. There is a car mode with extremely precise road navigation and tons of useful info, like your movement speed, vertical speed and estimated time of arrival.
It was by far my best 4 bucks' purchase.
