I am interested in some hands on training through a certified trainer and I have also been looking at the DVD's that some places offer for training. Does anyone have any that they recommend? Just want to head in the right direction.

I've been thinking of progressing from iMovie/FCE to Final Cut Pro and would like to eventually get into editing full-time.

If you want to learn the software go to an authorized training center, your apple store my run these or a third party / school / university / training company. ( in the UK try http://www.sohoeditors.com/SETmain.asp)
Learning to edit takes a little longer. You could try one of the following, go to film school / get a job at a production house, yes you will get all the jobs other people don't want to do / join a film club or make a short film with some friends.
Doing a real job such as a short film is an excellent way to improve your editing skills. But avoid offering to do wedding video they are a major pain to do especial if its family.
