Yahoo! Entertainment - great TV guide, also has other entertainment content
WeatherBug Elite - another free weather app

You can sign up for a free American iTunes account. Then you'll be able to download any of the 30,000 free books on iBooks or sync any epub files you may have through iTunes.

Instructions for a free American iTunes account:
http://www.ghacks.net/2009/02/09/create-a-free-us-itunes-account-from-any-country/

If you are in Canada you can also buy pre-paid Vanilla Mastercards and use them with your American iTunes account to make purchases.

You can get all the free classics in the iBook store. You just have to search for specific titles. You can use the Project Gutenburg site to find books you'd be interested in, then search for that title in iBooks.
