Best (simplest) way to store and charge AirPods Max?

I have a pair of AirPods Max being delivered tomorrow from Amazon. Assuming that I like them and find I will use them often enough to keep them, what is the best way to store and charge them? Is it necessary (for battery life) to keep putting them back in the "not so" Smart Case? Are there any stands/cases that actually charge the APM or is that not really necessary?

When I had a pair, I never used the case. I let them sit on my desk and charged them once every two or three days depending on how much I used them. You could probably leave the case in the box and not ever notice a difference.
