Just got a 3Ghz 8 core 32gb dual D700 Mac Pro for cheap and would love to upgrade it.
Any suggestions?
What’s the fastest (not the most cores necessary) cpu I can install and ram? Sorry I know nothing about the 6,1. Thanks for your help! ?

Have similar machine and I did this:

1) 64GB
2) SSUBX 1TB SSD
3) eGPU with Vega Frontier

more than happy with it for now, will drive it till the sunset

I lost an auction for a Razer core X yesterday, eBay didn’t accept my bet at the last second and I lost it… I am looking for a RX 6800 XT, I have an Apple 1Tb SSD but my next upgrade after the GPU will be a faster SSD 😊 glad your 6,1 is the way you like it… I always end up wanted to add more stuff to it when I search online 😂

Just got a Razer Core X 650W ? so the only missing item for now (since I have a 1Tb Apple SSD and can live using my external 2Tb XPG 8200 Pro I put in a USB 3.2 Gen 2 enclosure… is a proper GPU like an RX 6800 XT or a Radeon Vega!
Thanks for the help guys I’ll post pictures once I take everything apart then back together and finally for the moment of truth (hoping it boots) ?

SSUBX drive is only a slight upgrade (speed wise), I was lucky and found a really good deal for 2x so upgraded my Mac Pro and MBP mid 2014

here’s a good summary of what to order ;)

Hey there Evil Monk. I'm on the same journey you are and it looks like you've done your homework. How did you get on with the gpu. I've got the e5-2697 v2 and the 64gb of RAM. I'll update the SSD in good time. The GPU will be next step though :)

Wondering which would be better the RX 6800 XT or a Radeon Vega?
And in what enclosure. The Razor core X?

Hi,

im on the same way too

e5-2697 v2
64 GB 1866 MHz RAM (Hynix)
2 TB Kingston FURY RENEGADE with Sintech adapter (small)

I have readed, that the Sonnet case does not work under Windows, so it looks like the Razer Core X ist the best option. If i get a Razer Core for a good price i will add my old RX 580 to it. Perhaps i will add a newer card later.

Hi,
I'm in a similar situation, I have an MP6,1 connected to a Razor Core X (Chroma) with RX580, the setup works perfect, but was looking for a faster GPU so I'm considering an RX 6600 XT or RX 6800 XT...

Do you think we will see a noticeable improvement with a 6800 over a 6600 or will the eGPU be limited by TB2 bandwidth? for reference, I don't play much games but do use creative apps (DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, etc.)?

Thanks.
