I installed Windows 10 last night on my Early 2011 MBP with 1GB AMD Radeon 6950M.

I was ecstatic to see that Windows automatically installed July 2015 AMD drivers, and when I fired up BF4 not only did I not get the "you don't have the latest drivers installed" warning but I now have the option to select Mantle or DirectX 11 in the Video options.

I see references on Wikipedia to Mantle being supported only on 7000 series AMD architecture and later, but that was the case in June 2014.

Is anyone aware whether Mantle is in fact now supported on the 6950M?

I think, in answer to my own post, that the 6950M doesn't support Mantle because of the lack of GCN capability on board.

Oh well, nice to have a modern decent driver for the card under Windows. Apple's Bootcamp support for the same card is poor.

First of all, there is no Macbook Pro with Radeon 6950M. Second: pre-7000 AMD cards are VLIV4 cards. Completely different architecture.

Ok, typo on my behalf. I meant 6950M - serves me right to rely on my memory rather than have a window open with the spec.

Typo too with VLIV4 - googling suggests it's VLIW4. Going by the AMD site GCN is the differentiator.

Either way, whatevs
