I do not get any error messages. The Big Sur update has been running for hours but there is no progress. It is stuck after one of the reboots in the black screen with the white Apple logo and the white progress bar underneath it. It has not moved forward in hours.

Should I reboot? Will I mess up the installation of Big Sur and cause my whole machine to have to be wiped clean?

I'd risk rebooting.

I rebooted and held my breath. It went straight into Big Sur. Now I need to see if all the components work properly. My guess I have a full rebuild in the near future.
