Bluetooth Always Discoverable?

When Bluetooth is on, the iPhone is always discoverable. There's no option to leave it on for paired items only. I checked the manual, and it doesn't say anything about this, only that it's either on or off.

i am trying to find my gf blackjack with blue tooth, she can see my phone but i still have not gotten anything. will this work when the headset comes out? software update?
