iPad Books app - where are files stored?

I have OneDrive on my iPad and chose the "Open in another app" option. Then I chose Books. So, when I highlight and mark up the Book in the Book app, is it updating the file in OneDrive or has it taken a copy? It is unclear.

When you do the open operation, a copy is made in the Books app on the iPad.

Ok thanks. I was thinking it probably did that, but was not sure if it was synced or anything.
