Boot Linux from external USB HDD

I have Mattgradient.com.iso installed on HDD. Mattgradient is for Mac. It will not boot 2006 white Intel iMac or same vintage MacBook from external USB enclosure. It will boot the MacBook if installed internally. The USB external enclosure will boot a Dell laptop.
