Bootable DVD or USB for Leopard installation?

Hi all,

I have a Leopard disk image and have followed online
instructions to make a bootable usb but cannot get my mac to boot from it! Would it be less problematic if I made an install DVD from the image and if so any tips on how I would do that please?
