Looking for a source for a BR1632A Panasonic battery for my Mac Pro 7,1. Any suggestions?

I'm aware that CR1632A batteries are "equivalent." Not sure whether they are truly applicable to this computer.

Thank you,

Tom

Also eBay

Apparenlty the BR1632A can handle higher heat loads & consequently there is even a version with a fan, eg: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/panasonic-bsg/BR-1632A-FAN/273642

In any case, FWW, I've been using a CR1632A on my MoBo for some years now & without incident.

BR should be used ideally.

In Australia, BR series batteries aren’t packaged individually for retail, and generally aren’t able to be bought by the public. Even from a specialist battery retailer, it’s a special order, with a “we trust you to know what you’re doing with this” once you explain your need for it.

bcomer,

I am looking for a replacement battery for my Mac Pro 7,1 motherboard. I think that's the only one it has. I'm going by the Apple manual's nomenclature which corresponds with the adjacent photograph.

I wonder if this has anything to do with this issue?

All,

There appear to be many variations of the BR1632A coin battery. All the ones with the /XXX at the end of the battery number (e.g., BR1632A/FAN etc etc) seem to have tabs of some sort or another welded to them, making them I think unusable for my motherboard. You can see this by observing the illustrations at any of the above suggested links.

So thank you everyone for the suggestions and links, but it looks like none of those will fit :(

What I'm pretty sure I need is the plain BR1632A without any suffix. And no tabs.

Even the Mouser one has a suffix if I try to order it, where the description doesn't include a suffix. Puzzling. Maybe I'll see if I can ask them.

What issue are you referring to? I was simply answering your question, or so I thought?

bcomer,

I looked. The other thread about NVME drives on PCIE cards failing to mount is exactly why I'm looking for a new battery. Maybe it has something to do with the problem, maybe not.

It would be a fairly simple test IF I could find the correct battery. Still looking...

This?
The basic BR series is here; https://industry.panasonic.eu/produ...tteries/lithium-coin-type-batteries-br-series
It would appear that the BR-A is just the high temperature version?

H2,

Thank you! At last, this looks to be the correct battery!

Alas, as a fellow once said "if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all..."

I tried to order from the UK site: it would not allow a shipping address outside the UK.

I tried to order from their US site: it stated the batteries had been discontinued and were no longer available.

So I went to Amazon and ordered a CR1632A. My logic was that it would be a fresh 3V battery I could use to see whether it had any effect on my problem. I did send inquiries to Panasonic and Farnell, so maybe later on I can get the correct battery.

I looked on Apple's site and of course there's no way to get one from them as far as I could see.

I would think the AS Mac Pro would have the same battery....?
It may be worth a visit to an Apple Store to ask.

Although a CR should work, it will need replacing a lot quicker than a BR.

Edit: I have just replaced my cMP battery after 12 years with like for like.
It didn't need changing, but I had some time over Xmas.

Ah, sorry to hear that. Appear to be a pain to get hold of.
