broken iphone headphones

ok so my left earbud stopped working and the little peace of plastic thats at the end of the stereo jack split and fell off

would apple replace the headphones?
isnt my iphone covered by 1 year insurance if their products stop working?

I brought my Touch in to ask a question to a genius and he was cool, noticed my headphones were shot and gave me a new pair.

Ask nice, and if they are cool, I'm sure they will give you a new pair.

the thing is i live no where near an apple store
the closest one in connecticut is like 30 min away
there isnt a way to do this over the phone or at a different store?

The headphones are covered under the 1 year warranty. I exchanged mine twice. You can do a warranty exchange online and they'll ship them directly to your house, usually next day air. Easy and quick.
