How can I download back the calculator? Don’t know how, but I know it vanished one day from my iPad’s desktop.

Calculator is not a native/stock Apple app that is available on the iPad. You can download petty much any calculator app from the App Store and use it.

Why can’t I download that specific calculator that I’ve lost?

Go into your App Store account and look under Purchased > Not on this iPad to see if it shows there to download again.

You might also want to check if that app got moved by mistake into a folder.

As @C DM mentioned, Apple’s own calculator app comes only for iPhones, but it never came for iPads. So any calculator apps people use on their iPads can be downloaded from the App Store.

Open the App Store on your iPad and search for “Calculator” there, you will find plenty to choose from. ?

You can group apps together in folders by dragging them on top of each other to create the folder initially. If you don't see any folders, then it means you hadn't created any. One of the things that can happen is when trying to move an app, it can slide into a nearby folder by mistake.

Here's the App Store link for the iphone calculator, but there isn't one for iPad that comes by default: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/calculator/id1069511488

The iPad does not come with a calculator app. Never has. 3rd party apps can be downloaded from the app store.

1. Go into the App Store.
2. Click on your Apple ID icon on the top right.
3. Click purchased.
4. Hit the search and type calculator.

I didn’t understand that Apples calculator wouldn’t work for the iPad, I just thought that it wouldn’t ship by default for it.

Calculator won’t work for my iPad, what is wrong?
As Nermal mentioned, it's only for the iPhone, which is what I had said. There's third-party calculators that work great for the iPad. You can search in the store to find them.

I don’t understand why Apple hasn’t created a version that works for the iPad. What is the reason?

Best answer I can think of is that Spotify makes a calculator redundant, but that argument would also work on the Mac and iPhone where there is a calculator, so yeah, nobody has a good answer... But Spotlight is great
