Can my HFS+ Time Machine backup APFS SSD's without issue?

I have an 8TB HDD Time Machine formatted to HFS+ and am now adding two internal NVMe SSD's that will store video & audio material.
Should the SSD's be foramtted as APFS and if so, will my HFS+ Time Machine have any difficulty accessing/backing up those SSD's?
