Can your iPhone be compromised by simply opening an email?

A legitimate email I received went to my spam folder so I opened it and re-assigned it to the actual inbox. However, once I did that, the email app automatically opened the next email in my spam folder, which was a clear scam. If I didn't click on any link and immediately closed it, am I fine? If not, is there anything I should do?

This is probably a dumb question, but I'm new to iOS and I'm not the most tech savvy person...

I have an iPhone 12 with the most recent version of iOS.

You’re fine if you don’t click on links in emails from unknowns.

Most emails from companies contain tracking images that are remotely loaded. When you open an email that has that, the sender can see that that image was loaded on their web logs / and you opened their email.
But that’s all.
But it tells them that the email they sent you is being opened by an actual person - which is useful info to spammers.

You can turn off remotely loaded images in email in the Mail app settings.
