Card Reader mounting on 10.15.7

I own a mid-2012 Macbook.
Updating to Catalina 10.15.7 has disabled mounting of my card reader plugged into the USB slots with a CF express card in it.
ALL other external disks mount normally. The card reader does NOT appear in disk utility, resetting SMC and PRAM does nothing.
I even reinstalled the OS system. Still nothing. Are drivers missing? Is my Macbook too old to load those drivers? Guessing so.
Any idea how I can get my Macbook to read my card reader so I can download my photos?

Having the same issue with my old 2010. But problem is that somehow it's dead. I've tried other OSs (Linux Mint, Windows 7) with no luck.
