This has happened to me several times and it is really frustrating. I'll open chrome on my iphone to find that all of my open tabs have suddenly vanished. And if I go to the "recent tabs" page it is completely empty. I can understand if sometimes it just resets and accidentally closes all the tabs. But if it is completely erasing the “recent tabs” list at the same time it is definitely a terrible glitch. What the hell?
