I have seen this topic come up a lot, so I felt like this clarification was in order:
The very FIRST android phone, the G1 (aka HTC Dream) did *not* have a headphone jack.

What it did have was a mini USB compatible port (extUSB, which accepts mini USB cables) at the bottom of the phone. The phone had a headphone jack adapter to allow the use of headphones with it which T-mobile gave to owners for free when they became available. Back then Bluetooth headphones were not as prevalent (nor as cheap) as they are today.
It was definitely an inconvenience if you wanted to charge your phone and use headphones at the same time, and it was a pain keeping track of that adapter.
