iPhone XS Max Compared to my Max XS, my +Plus phone seems like a baby phone

I always want to wait a few days before passing judgment on a new phone. But after a couple of days with the Max XS - my Plus phone seems like a baby phone. Smaller screen, a touch slower, not OLED - simply not as elegantly designed. Don't get me wrong, the Plus has been my go to phone for a bunch of generations at this point. However, putting the phones alongside one another, the Plus badly pales in comparison.

If you're on the fence about the Max - don't be. And if you're already a Plus owner and were planning to wait until next year's phone before upgrading - I completely understand that - just make sure that whatever you do, that you DO NOT go to any store that sells the Max and pick one up and play with it. It blows the plus out of the water - which by the way you can throw the Max in for quite a while before there is any damage to it.

how so? the longer xs max still feels smaller than the plus phones with its uneven display with rounded edges and the notch.

i even wish it would be wider and bigger.

The 8+ phones are not really the ones you should go after. Go back to the 6+, as upgrading makes more sense for these.

Hoping to share what I already know. The image on the 8+ is significantly larger than on the XSM. Not an issue for many.. but if you are into Photos it may be.

The iPhone max is slightly wider on the narrow end resulting in larger (though only slightly) images

I have personally lined up all 3. 8+, XSM and XS. I have seen with my own eyes that the image, in landscape mode on the 8+ is larger than on the XSM. Also, the difference in the size of the image in landscape mode between the XS and XSM isn’t that significant.

I don’t need schematics to show what I have seen. I didn’t have anything to take a picture of the ‘test’ when I did it as my 8+ was being used.

I was very surprised. I never thought the size of a photo would be larger on the 8+. Aspect ratio I guess. I would estimate that the image on the 8+ is almost 10mm wider... say 7-8mm.

You are right. When you take out the notch (as you would in Safari or when seeing a photo), the difference is far smaller.

Changes to image? I lined XS, XSM & 8+ top to bottom and landscape image in 8+ was noticeably wider. We don’t know if you have cropped or zoomed this.

I don’t own an XSM. I’ll take my IPP to show the test. Not sure what you mean by maximum vertical height. I loaded images (landscape orientation) on the XS & XSM. I opened a landscape-oriented image on my 8+. My image was noticeably wider than the XSM.

It's the default view man. Where you open a photo and it snaps the the top border of the phone. You see 100% of the image with nothing cropped on the top or bottom.

That seems to mirror my findings and is well with in a 10MM margin of error LOL

I found the difference. I compared images taken from a non-iPhone camera (normal 3:2 ratio) and images taken with my iPhone 8+. Images taken with 8+ are same width. Images taken with my camera are wider.

I do a lot of editing of my camera images on my iPhone.

Yes. But wondering why images taken on iPhone giving up so much space. I assume images from my camera will also be the same size.

The iPhone has a 4:3 image sensor. A lot of other Android phones artificially crop the image down to 16:9 so it has a more pleasing look on a wide screen device. This done at the cost of loosing data (The cropped bottoms and tops of the image.)
