Compatible Headphone Jack for in car stereo?

My wire that I have been using to connect directly to my in car stereo is too wide and does not fit into the headphone jack on the top of the iPhone.... Does anyone know of a wire that is thin (like the headphone jack in of iPod/iPhone earphones) and that will fit into that jack? I can confirm that the wire I have fits into the back of the Dock, but it will not fit into the top jack because there is too much rubber around the bottom... I may have to take a knife and cut some rubber off....

I'm having the same problem in my car. I can't understand why Apple built the iPhone this way. They had to know that it would cause compatible problems for countless numbers of iPod owners.
