Competition catching up to AirPods?

I’m seeing more discounts on the pros and regular pods, I’m also seeing cheaper earbuds with anc and usb type c charging.

Is the competition catching up or is Apple falling behind?

I haven't tried many of the alternatives, but I have some younger family members who have and they would all say that Airpods have been totally surpassed and are wildly overpriced at this point.

But -- they are Apple products, so "wildly overpriced" is sort of par for the course.

The key thing for AP products still is the very tight integration with Apple gear.
But if you have anything non Apple in your rotation, that benefit essentially disappears.
