Just found the $30 pre-paid for unlimited text/5 GB data/100 minutes voice on T-Mobile.
Sounds too good to be true. Are they for real?

It's true, but their coverage is trash. Even in the middle of NYC, you drop down to EDGE sometimes.

Complete crap. I haven't seen EDGE on my AT&T phone in a few years now.

I also live in Rochester. Had T-Mo for about a month. HSPA+ was very fast, but the signal reception was very, very bad. Especially in buildings. I hadn't seen "No Service" on my phone that frequently since, well, ever. I wanted T-Mo to work but it just didn't. Currently on Net10 (basically the same as Straight Talk on AT&T). Satisfied except that AT&T compatible SIM cards block access to the APN settings menu, forcing me to resort to unlockit.co.nz, which really doesn't work very reliably and does not allow MMS. Better option is to Jailbreak and install APN changer, but with iOS7 coming who knows how long that will be.

I think when iPhone 6 comes out in a year I will take another look at T-Mobile's coverage as well as Virgin Mobile (hoping for LTE).

yes.

Since it's prepaid, you can try it and see how well it work in Rochester for $30.

You can cancel after that $30 is over.

To everyone saying LTE, you all do know that the 4S doesn't have LTE, right? :)

Guess I'll go for Straight Talk, since they use the AT&T network. Win-win... I think.

ST stopped using AT&T network a long time ago. Go Aio. Aiowireless.com

Same here. I'm trying to switch to either VZ or Sprint at this point. The cheaper plan is not worth the shotty service.

If this is how you feel, stay FAR away from Sprint. Yes the dirt cheap unlimited data is extremely alluring but its worthless when 99.9% of the time you can't even use it because there's no service.

Its been a miserable two years with them for me and I cannot wait until the 5S drops so I can go to Verizon.

Thats usually true but Sprint has been getting much better their snails pace has seemed to pick up a bit in my area and speeds are looking up, but still if you have something that already works with AT&T then stay with them.

My wife and sister have had VZ and complained about both companies. Now I hear this about Sprint, so now I'm considering going with the $60 a month plan w/ AT&T. The question now becomes is there a company out here that provides unlocking for T-Mo iPhones.
