Cutting and Pasting to/from InDesign CS2

Why is it that I cant copy and paste stuff FROM indesign into, say a mail document, word document, IM or anything?

Its like nothing gets copied when I hit COPY (either a shortcut or a menu selection).

And yet I can always cut and paste INTO indesign.

whats wrong here?

Are you, perhaps, trying to copy things like text boxes, instead of the text itself? That's the thing that comes to mind first.
