Default Application for file type

I have scanner software which is saving files with a .PDF suffix, i.e. uppercase. Double clicking the file opens Quicktime. Lowercase .pdf opens Preview which I would prefer. I haven't been able to change the scanner software default and was wondering whether it is possible to set the default app against a file type.

I know I can open the file with a selected app but would prefer use the double click.

Had a quick search and couldn't see anything that addressed this.

Try Getting Info on one of the uppercase files (COMMAND-I or Finder menu) and then under the Open With section, choose Preview and press Change All.
