i was able to delete grouped bookmarks in mojave by doing the following:
1 hold TAB key down
2 select grouped bookmaek
3 hit DELETE button
4 click X to the right of the now empty title for that grouped bookmark.
i have not seen any documentation on getting this done elsewhere.
