Slow load times - Inventory

With season 22 there was a slow display of inventory when looking at stash, closet, or blacksmith in towns from areas 1, 3, 4, 5. Oddly area 2 town worked OK. Also observed on PC's.

Season 23 ran into the same issue, but a users in the D3 forums observed that once you start a new game, go to Options > change Texture Quality from High to Low then accept, and cancel when dialog appears

Blizzard has yet to fix this thru 2 seasons

S23 is quite different from previous seasons with buffs. Instead of some kind of buff (s14 to s22) the game has the follower able to share 14 items and couple of sets abilities with the player. Its almost like running with a zbuild when playing solo. You can make a follower that is thorns based as a example and see it kill all up to say lvl 40 outright instead of you doing anything. Every build is represented on the leaderboard now, it is no longer just a game where everyone eventually migrates to one or 2 top builds for each role for either normal or hardcore.

The game still looks great when playing on the Mac

The issue with the slow inventory loading has been happening for several seasons now - so annoying!
Otherwise S23 is great so far!

I started to use a 8/8 16 GB memory 24" M1 iMac for Diablo versus a older late 2015 27" iMac. I didn't max out the video settings, just tried the usual 1980x1080@60 and while I saw some warmth, its wasn't getting hot like the older iMac (4.0 GHz i7/M395X). I played a couple of GR120's initially.

Regarding the slow inventory loading I went to several towns and the slow inventory wasn't present. Have to play it a bit more to be certain. But not needing to toggle from High Texture to low and cancel like before is nice.

Update, still slow inventory present in later sessions, but it was not as slow as when using older Mac.

Good to see this confirmed as an issue not hardware related.
I've tried any possibility I could think of to no avail.
I hope Blizzard solves it when Season 24 starts...

p.s. D3 running Mojave, does anyone know if this issue is present under Bootcamp/Windows too?

The upcoming season 24 should actually attract a lot of players that haven't been so enticed by some of the recent seasonal themes.

The fact that you can get a Ethereal at a lower lv as you try to lvl up should make for some interesting play styles across all seven character types.

here's the basics to what they are good for.

  • Ethereals can only be dropped by monsters, chests, and destructibles
  • Your character doesn’t need to be level 70 for them to drop
  • They can’t be acquired via Kanai’s Cube or from Kadala
  • The rarity drop is between Ancient and Primal
  • Each class has three unique Ethereals
  • Only one Ethereal can be equipped at any time
  • They ignore item durability loss
  • The legendary powers and class passive skills on the Ethereals do not stack with the same power acquired via Kanai’s Cube, or other items and skills.
  • They can’t be enchanted, transmogrified, dyed, reforged, or traded, but they can be augmented.
  • Ethereals only drop during this season and will not transfer to your non-seasonal character when season 24 ends.
Any player who manages the frankly impossible-sounding feat of collecting all 21 Ethereals during season 24 (not during the PTR) will be rewarded with the ‘Feat of Strength – Ethereal Collection’. Anyone who has this will have all Ethereal transmogrify options available to use in both future seasonal and non-seasonal sessions, so it’s well worth hunting them down.

A early look after PTR completed at how the classes compare still not final until after the season ends and the next patch is applied.

Monk is currently the most interesting class to play in s24 (July 23rd), especially LoD WoL monk for GR clears, pushing.

Variety of YouTube tier videos out there now from several sites

With the Ethereals it opens up playing multiple classes, the fastest build for bounties, rifting is GoD DH build

Note I am using a 8/8/16/1TB M1 24" iMac now, and the game while utilizing Rosetta is only getting about 73C when doing high GR's (120+) then it cools into the 60's in between runs. Comparably my late 2015 27" iMac 4.0 GHz i7/M395X got well into the 90C's when played. Just Amazing.

Any difference in terms of fps and smoothness between playing in windowed mode and full screen?

Patch 2.7.1.76761 is now available before Friday. This game retains the enhanced abilities of the followers that S23 introduced, and adds the 3 types of s24 Ethereals per the seven classes to utilize with their random rolls. Should be more interesting for both solo push and meta play.

S24 a month later turned into a season where a lot are playing multiple classes/builds because of Feat of Strength Achievement - (collect all 21 ethereal's) - get permanent Transmogs of all 21 weapons.

It opened up play style considerably as far as D3 can go either Normal or Hardcore. Now very recently you have D2 Resurrected leaching players away from it I am sure. :)

What season 25 - PRT 2.7.2 concerns, also its a tribute to the 25th anniversary of Diablo.

New Season Theme: Season 25 introduces a new type of socketable item called Soul Shards. Nephalem can find 7 unique Soul Shards, based on the Lords of Hell, which give players demonic new powers. One of 3 Prime Evil Soul Shards can be equipped into Helms and one of 4 Lesser Evil Soul Shards can be equipped into Weapons. Each Soul Shard can be upgraded three times using a new seasonal-exclusive consumable, the Hellforge Ember.

Soul Shards and Hellforge Embers can drop from anywhere in Sanctuary, but Soul Shards have a higher chance to drop from Bosses. Soul Shards cannot be traded, but can be salvaged or utilized in Caldesann’s Despair. You may only equip one Prime Evil Soul Shard and one Lesser Evil Soul Shard at a time. Lastly, Soul Shards and Hellforge Embers only drop in Seasonal play, and will not transfer to your non-seasonal character when the season ends.

WD Arachyr and DH Marauder are the ones to watch.

I played a DH Shadow a bit in PTR and the 6 pc armor change has made the play style a lot more multiple target based using impale with cold based overpenetration. Yes you could clear areas now, not just be a RGK. Soul Shards and Hellfire embers are not dropped withe any lvl attributes. You can use a particular shard in a helm and another in a dagger for example and you right click a shard in inventory with 3 embers and you can really see you how these can accent various skills. But then can readily be removed by the blacksmith and repurposed for other builds. So for a starter build it can be very powerful, daresay tanky if you play it well. The purpose of this season is also to take certain builds and make them better in competition to other builds that people tend to play too much.

The PTR 2.7.3 should start today. No patch yet.

New Season Theme: Season 26 introduces the Echoing Nightmare, an optional and rewarding end-game challenge where players fight within the memories of Nephalem who fell in a Greater Rift. Today’s Nephalem must stand their ground until they are inevitably Overwhelmed or defeated. Players must collect a Petrified Scream from defeated Greater Rift Guardians to gain entry to the Echoing Nightmare. Transmuting a Petrified Scream in Kanai's Cube summons a portal that players can enter to face the horrors of the Nephalem's past.

Season Theme Details:

  • Petrified Screams and the Echoing Nightmare can only be accessed with seasonal characters.
  • Only one player is required to transmute a Petrified Scream to open an Echoing Nightmare in a multiplayer game.
  • Similar to a boss encounter, all players in a multiplayer game must accept a prompt to enter.
  • While within an Echoing Nightmare, the difficulty scales as players progress in the encounter. Players can progress faster by defeating monsters quickly.
  • Players receive the following rewards upon completing an Echoing Nightmare: EXP, Legendary Items, Blood Shards, Gems, and a new Legendary Gem, Whisper of Atonement.
  • The Whisper of Atonement is a Legendary Gem used exclusively for Augmenting Ancient Legendary items. It drops pre-ranked based upon player's performance in the Echoing Nightmare.
Developer's Note: This is our first Seasonal Theme that introduces a new activity to the game. In the Echoing Nightmare, players will experience an intense, densely packed, increasingly challenging event that stretches their ability to stay in the fight as long as possible. We found inspiration in Orek's warning, "Many nephalem have stood where you are now, but few succeeded in overcoming the trials." The Echoing Nightmare explores what happened to those Nephalem who did not succeed.

What specific build items are being tweaked:

Barbarian

  • Legacy of Raekor (4-piece Bonus): Furious Charge gains the effect of every rune and deals 1000% increased damage. For every 1% Life you are missing, the damage of your Ancient Spear is increased by 2%.
  • Legacy of Raekor (6-piece Bonus): Hitting enemies with Furious Charge increases the damage of your next Ancient Spear by 5500% and causes it to release multiple spears from its target. This effect stacks and is consumed from each released spear. This can only consume a maximum of 5 stacks at a time.
  • Arreat's Law: Weapon Throw and Ancient Spear deal 150-200% increased damage.
    • Weapon Throw generates up to 25 additional Fury based on the distance of the enemy hit.
    • Ancient Spear refunds up to 25 Fury based on the distance of the enemy hit.
  • The Three Hundredth Spear: Increase the damage of Weapon Throw and Ancient Spear by 150-200%.
  • Skular's Salvation: Increase the damage of Ancient Spear by 150-200%. If your Ancient Spear - Boulder Toss hits 5 or fewer enemies, the damage is increased by 100%.
Developer's Note: We reworked Raekor’s Legacy to give the set its own identity. It felt natural to the team to infuse the charging fantasy of Raekor’s Legacy with the Barbarian’s ranged skills.

Crusader

  • Thorns of the Invoker: The attack speed of Punish and Slash are increased by 100% and deal 67,500% of your Thorns damage.
  • Norvald's Fervor: Gain 200% increased damage while using Steed Charge and for 5 seconds after it ends.
Developer's Note: Norvald's Fervor is overperforming across multiple sets. We want to bring its power down, but we are Increasing the utility of Thorns of the Invoker to compensate.

Monk

  • Bindings of the Lesser Gods: Enemies hit by your Cyclone Strike take 150%-200% more damage from your Mystic Ally for 5 seconds.
Developer's Note: We're happy with the gameplay of Inna's Mantra Monks, but the Fire build is overperforming, so we removed the Fire Ally bonus from the Bindings of the Lesser Gods.
