Fedex delivered my cMBP yesterday. Now I'm shopping for monitors.

I know thunderbolt displays can be daisy chained. I can't afford thunderbolt displays.

I can afford 2 monitors that can be daisy chained with Display Port 1.2a Multi Stream Transport (MST).

What I cannot seem to find anywhere is whether or not the 2013 Macs support the 1.2a standard. And, if they don't, is it a hardware issue or software?

I don't want a 27" monitor. Too big too close. 1 1920x1200 and 1 1680x1050 would be ideal. 2 1920x1200 would be second choice. 1 29" if I have to.

Thank you.

The current implementation of Thunderbolt on all Macs (even the 2013 MBA) does not support displayport 1.2. Most likely the upcoming MBP's will, but until they are out and someone (ifixit?) tears one apart we will not know. Redwood Ridge, which was supposedly released with Haswell (but didn't appear in the MBA's so your guess is as good as mine) , does support Displayport 1.2.

MBPs don't support MST. It's "Probably" a hardware issue, the Intel specs on the Thunderbolt controllers used in current models indicates DP1.1 support.

That's what I figured. Guess I go comparison shopping the the 29". Should be easy seeing as how there are only 4 of them.

Appreciate the answers.
