when I open a .DNG file in Preview it says 'Protected' but that is only when opening .DNG files. Is that 'normal' behaviour for Preview?

where is the DNG located? Which version of macOS?

Mac OS Ventura and located in 'Downloads'

What does ›Get Info‹ from the Finder tell you about the DNG and your Download-folder (lock status, access rights)? This happens only for DNGs downloaded from the internet (when opening a DNG copied directly from a camera to Downloads there is no such message in Preview)? Can you kindly download a sample DNG from here using Safari and open it in Preview to check?
