From what I can gather, it seems you must use Siri to do any of what you asked. If you would rather not, you'll need to use your phone/watch/whatever you're connected to.

If we can tap twice for SIRI, why can't we tap once for Play and Pause?

Also, Telling SIRI to increase or decrease volumn isn't ideal for the lack of instant feedback. Hope somebody can clarify this issue. Love the Pods though.

If you take one earpiece out it pauses. Put it back in and it play automatically. Take them both out and the music either stops or switches you iPhone speakers.
