ive been out of the jailbreak scene for a while. My iPad Air 1 is still on iOS 8.1.1, and I tried to jailbreak it using taig, but the device is not even picked up by taig. I don't have iTunes installed on the laptop as its a work laptop and don't want to litter it with bloat ware.

So the question is, do I need iTunes installed in order to jailbreak?

Yes, you do. But not the latest version. Try installing 11.5

Thanks for that. Will give it a try under a windows virtual machine due to me using a work laptop to do this :D

Btw why 11.5, and not the latest version? Where can I find 11.5 from

I think it's because the latest version of iTunes causes problems with the jailbreak tool. I think it has to do with the driver files

edit:
