I updated my HomePod stereo pair to OS 17. However, I've kept my iPhone on iOS 16.6.1 for the time being.

I don't see the option to use "Siri" instead of "Hey Siri" in the Home App settings. Do I also need to update my iPhone to iOS 17 to take advantage of the updated HomePod firmware?

Found the answer on Reddit.

iOS 17 is also required.

Not really? Im on iOS 15 and the update shows up too
Yes, the update for the HomePods shows up. However, even if you apply the update to the HomePods, you'll still need to update your iPhone to take advantage of the new "Siri/Hey Siri" functionality, and ostensibly other new features as well.
