Just a quick info: does the MSI RX560 4Gb (the official reccomended from Apple) show "Orinoco" as framebuffer? I am about to order one to transform one of my MacPros in a media server / game station (only emulators, no 3D needed).
I know it is not mandatory to have that exact model of RX560 but I like to have every part "as it should be" :)

No, and better not to, Orinoco Framebuffer is for PULSE RX580 (and may be other card that has identical ports layout), not that RX 560

Thank you very much, so is there another dedicated framebuffer assigned to the MSI RX560 or it will be displayed as generic?

Just purchased (MSI RX560 4GB), everything work as expected, also AMD acceleration. In some Hackintosh forums I've read the framebuffer could be the "Acre" one, so far only the DVI-D out -> HDMI display does not work very well (purple screen) but if I connect HDMI -> HDMI all is OK. As reference, a flashed MSI R9 280x 3 Gb (default Hamachi framebuffer) works well also going from DVI-D to HDMI. I wonder if forcing the "Acre" framebuffer on the RX560 could solve this issue.

After googling here and there I have ended to modify the binary part of AMD9500controller.kext changing the "Acre" Framebuffer (at hex level) to match exactly the properties of my MSI RX560 Aero ITX but doing so the kext is now rejected by the system because of signature issues (this was expected) and the generic Radeon Framebuffer continue to be loaded. I am 100% sure about the values I have modified but I don't know how to force the specific framebuffer.
For reference, this is the original "Acre" framebuffer code:

00040000 04030000 00010101 00000000 11020201 00000000
00080000 04020000 00010200 00000000 21030504 00000000
04000000 04020000 00010300 00000000 00000305 00000000

and this is what I have modified following the guides in the Hackintosh users forums

00040000 04030000 00010101 00000000 11020101 00000000
00080000 00020000 00010200 00000000 21030204 00000000
04000000 14020000 00010300 00000000 10000305 00000000

My intention is to keep things as clean as possible modifying the minimum needed, I think in this way I could fix the issue of purple tint when I go DVI-D -> HDMI connection. I do not want to mess things using Clover or similar tools, only command line and hex edit, as long this is possible.

I have a Mac Pro early 2009.
Updating from High Sierra to Mojave was a big pain and it started trying to find a compatible graphics card.
From info online i wasn't sure but at the end i decided to take the risk and order a Sapphire Pulse 11267-19-20G Graphics Card RADEON RX 560 1500MHz PCI Express

I replaced the graphics card with the RX560 and the Mojave installer stopped giving the Metal compatibility notice.
It asked me to update the Mac Pro Firmware. You need to press the Shut down button from the installer, it will ask to install a helper and it will shut down.
Then keep the power button pressed for 15-20 seconds until the power light flashes and then a long beep will sound.
It opened the cd rom after a minute. This signifies that the Mac Pro firmware has been updated.
For me, it had to be done twice. I don't know why.
Anyhow, then all i got was a black screen.
It would boot up and give a black screen. Nothing to do. I tried to reset the Nvram by powering off down the mac, then turn it on and immediately press and hold these four keys together: Option, Command, P, and R
I did this many times but it did not help.

I put back my old graphics card in and tried to boot. No signal on the screens.
I put in again the RX560 and this time it booted.
It continued with the Mojave installer for about 30 minutes and all went smoothly from there.

Will the VisionTek Radeon RX 560 work or does it have to be MSI?
I purchased the VisionTek Radeon RX 560 with 4 GB and installed in in my 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 -> 5,1 yesterday.

My previous GPU (MSI Radeon R9 RX 280 with 3 GB) was causing me issues:
  • Lockups whenever graphically "intense" operations were done (mostly Apple News after using it for a little while and Preview after viewing multiple JPG or PNG files).
  • I had to wait for the password field to let me type my password (as in seeing a flashing cursor in the field) after selecting my account on the login screen.
Now none of the above happens with the VisionTek GPU - with the exception of the two things listed below, everything works great now - I am very happy with the purchase:
  • I do not have the boot screen. For now this is fine (and I expected this) and if I ever need to see the boot screen then I can look into flashing the card or getting a "basic" 1 GB GPU that shipped with Mac Pro 2009 model.
  • I only see 2 of the 4 GB in About This Mac and the System Report. I do want to look into this, but this GPU is working so much better then the previous one (MSI Radeon R9 RX 280 with 3 GB that came with this Mac Pro that I purchased off of eBay recently) that I can wait a little while before I look into this.
I saw in some reviews that people thought the fan on the VisionTek Radeon RX 560 is loud. The fan does constantly run and I can hear it, but so far it doesn't bother me. Worth keeping in mind, depending on whether something like this would bother you if you are considering this GPU.

The VisionTek GPU has 4 miniDP ports. I am only using one port - a miniDP to DisplayPort cable to connect to my AOC Ultrawide 34" monitor (model CU34G2X). The resolution is 3440 x 1440 (default / maximum resolution) and the refresh rate is 144 Hz (also the maximum refresh rate).
